Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire, Africa

My crew and I worked out of Abidjan, Côte d´Ivoire, Africa on the Gubert Tide, a PSV displacing 5,000 tons from July through Nov of 2009. We delivered supplies to the Belford Dolphin Drillship, which drilled a well offshore Sierra Leone and a well offshore Côte d´Ivoire for Anadarko.

Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire, Africa is a fascinating location. I was not able to see much of the city as I had to be on the boat most of the time. But 6 of my crew were from Abidjan and I saw many interesting events in the local waters and on TV.

The Gubert Tide at 5 knots seems to attract fish in a very big way.

This is a video of dancing on one of two Abidjan TV channels.

I have never seen so many fish jumping at one time so close.

I wish I knew where this was taking place. My guess is Nigeria.

I would like to know what is under the surface causing such a panic on the surface.

I don't know what the purpose of this activity was. Was it a cultural ritual or a dance contest? Some of his moves are incredible.

We frequently see large schools of porpoises escorting the Gubert Tide at full speed (12 knots). They join us at least once a day and some times as many as 5 times on the same day.

I can see dancing as the newest Olympic Sport! Ready to join the team?
